Bass-Jons

Bass-Jons' fished Lake Smith for their 8th event of the season.  Nineteen boats came out to fish on a beautiful day that saw temperatures go up to around 80 degrees, with mostly sunny skies and light winds.  Recent reports have shown that Lake Smith is fishing tough after the recent warm-up, but the entire field that weighed-in was able to boat a limit of 5 fish.  Most reports had anglers catching fish on dark-colored plastics or jigs, which is typical for Lake Smith this time of year.  Many anglers reported catching good numbers of fish all day long, while some reported the bite picking up as the day went on.  The big bite was tough for some, and of course, the key to finishing high was finding the better fish.  The boats that were able to do that separated themselves from the rest of the field. 

Rick Burton and Cole Barnette were able to bring in a huge 19 lb 6 oz bag to win the event by nearly 5 lbs.  They caught their bag on senkos, and reported catching fish throughout the day.  Their winning weight represents the highest winning weight this year so far.  Second went to Victor and Aida Lopez with 14 lbs 8 oz, and third went to Dan Griffin and Adam Bach with 13 lbs 10 oz.  Despite finishing 5th, Moose Wells was still able to take home some money by catching the big fish at 6 lbs 2 oz, as well as winning the 50/50 raffle. 

Moose Wells also was able to overtake the top spot in the AOY standings with his 5th place finish.  Chaz Carrington holds down the second spot, while Rick Burton is in third.  At the halfway point in the season, only 2 points separates the top 3, so the AOY race is heating up as we head into the summer.   

The next event will be at the Nottoway/Blackwater/Chowan Rivers at the Route 258 launch on June 18th.
