Bass-Jons scheduled a make-up tournament on September 24th to replace the Western Branch tournament that was cancelled due to excessive heat this summer. Mike Kane and Nancy Fox managed to pull out the win with a nice 13 lb 10 oz sack, plus a tournament big fish of 6 lbs 14 oz. This matches the largest fish of the year caught earlier in the year on the Nottoway River by Roccoa Spurlin.
The Angler of the Year title has come down to 3 anglers with one tournament left before the Classic. Rick Burton and Mike Peregrine are tied at the top with 121 points. Rick's next dropped tournament is an 8-pointer, while Mike's is a 7-pointer, so in order to maintain sole possession of 1st place, Rick needs to beat Mike by two places in the upcoming tournament. Luther Showaker has an outside shot at the title. He trails Rick and Mike by 3 points, and he will drop a 7-pointer with a high finish. To claim a share of the title, he would need to finish 3 places ahead of Mike Peregrine, and 2 places ahead of Rick Burton. Dave Evans also inserted himself into the competition for the title by amassing 117 points, plus a 4-point drop coming up; however, he will miss the final tournament and thus eliminate himself from the competition. It is an exciting finish to the season as it all comes down to this one event.
