BOOT'LEGG EVENT
Lake Meade

| The 4th Boot'Legg Trail Tournament was held on Lake Meade this weekend. As usual, there was another great turnout which brought out 24 teams that consisted of 43 total anglers. The lake drawing was done by our previous week's winners James Williams & Gene North. Outside of the 30- to 35-mph wind gusts that beat the anglers around the lake, the weather wasn't too uncomfortable. Tough weather conditions the day prior which brought in a cold front and dropped in a lot of rain didn't help the bite much; not like it made much of a difference since this was Lake Meade, which usually fishes hard anyway. It wasn't as cloudy as our previous events and if you could find an area where the wind wasn't blowing, the sun warmed anglers up pretty good. The air temps were in the upper-50’s, but out on the lake with the wind blowing like it did, it probably felt like it was in the upper-40's to low-50's. Water temps that morning at Blast-Off was at 55-degrees on the Main Lake and about 56- to 57-degrees in the coves. Later in the day anglers found water temps steady between 58- to 60-degrees. The water clarity wasn't too bad near the front of the lake and in the Main Lake, but with all the rain that came down the day before it muddied the creek arms pretty good. The Top 5 Anglers pattern for the day, believe it or not, was sight fishing. There were fish on the beds, but very few. Had the weather not come in on the Anglers yesterday, the weights and decisions that anglers made would have been much different. More than likely, the baits used to catch the spawning fish were a variety of Plastics and Jigs. Other anglers not sight fishing used everything and anything they could to get a bite. The fish are obviously pulling up onto their spawning flats, but still few can be caught staging. For anglers either catching bass or not, the pickerel were sure to keep anglers busy. Congratulations to the team of Jason Sawyer & Cory Hamilton for their 1st Place finish. They were going to just go fishing this weekend until they found out about the Boot'Legg Event and decided, "What the heck..., let's go fish it." To their surprise, they ended up not just going out and fishing this weekend, but they won the Tournament; Good job guys on your first tournament with the Boot'Legg Trail and win. In 2nd Place were Mike & Brian Kinsey, followed by Robbie Frame & Cab Beedie taking 3rd Place. There were no 7lbers to be weighed in today, but there were several 4lbers brought to the scales. Jeff Haynes, also fishing for the first time with Boot'Legg, brought in the largest of the 4lbers, which went 4.76lbs. Special Thanks: Thanks to Mike Gizara for assisting the anglers that morning in conducting traffic flow within the Park Facility. Big Thanks to, Tim Langdon, who assisted with the Weighin process by writing down the weights as they were being called off. The Boot'Legg Trail would like to thank the anglers for their cooperation and participation. Our next tournament will be held on April 9th at Beaver Dam Swamp, which is located in Gloucester, VA and our next tournament on the Southside, will be on April 24th; as always, the lake to will be drawn at the Route 460 Sentry Truck Stop. |
