Tournament Report

The 4th Tournament of the Season for the Little Creek Anglers Club was on Beaver Dam Swamp this past weekend. Although the weather called for mostly sunny skies, it also called for 30 to 35mph gusts. Anyone that has fished Beaver Dam knows that this place is like a wind tunnel and 5 to 10mph can be added to any wind that the Weatherman reports. The water temps were colder than anglers cared for, but with the rain and runoff, it wasn't too surprising that the water temps were reading about 52-degrees that morning. Water clarity was fair on the main lake and muddy in the back of the coves. Due to the high winds, it was almost impossible to fish the main lake areas and the wind blown banks. The Tournament brought out the Clubs largest field of anglers; 20 teams which consisted of 38 anglers.

All was not lost though; even With the conditions presented on this day, fishing was fairly good. Most anglers caught numbers of fish, but the size was tough to come by. The primary pattern/technique was to fish along the pre-spawn staging areas, as it has been for several weeks. However, it wasn't because the fish were staging, but pulled back due to the recent weather. They were also holding tight and not chasing too after much of anything. Those anglers power fishing succumbed to those who were throwing very light and small finesse lures and/or floating worms. Very few anglers caught fish using Spinnerbugs and Hardbaits.

For the past 2 or 3 years now, the Rte 606 Creek Arm has been the hottest thing going on Beaver Dam and this tournament was no different. Outside of the Tournament Winners, the majority of the fish came from this creek arm. The Tournament Winners focused on the sheltered main lake points.

It seems that wins with the Little Creek Anglers comes in 2's; starting with Derek Breckenridge & Allen Simpson winning 2 events in a row. Now it's Clarence Jenkins & JC DeBose winning 2 in a row, with an impressive 15.56lbs worth of fish anchored with the Big Fish of the day at 5.87lbs. Slightly over 2lbs behind them were Ricky West & Jerry Jenkins and in the 3rd spot were Jimmy Reed & Jerry Hogge. Congratulations guys.
