BOOT'LEGG EVENT
Beaver Dam Swamp Reservoir
09 April 2005

|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| The Boot’Legg Trail only brought in 15 boats today, which consisted of 26 total anglers fishing. The forecast for the day was supposed to be no better than 54, according to the evening before. By morning, it changed to 61-degrees, which was more promising for the anglers. However, there was supposed to be a NNE wind running at 20- to 30mph. Dumping into the lake that morning at the ramp, water temps were at 57-degrees, but there were variances on the lake depending on where you started fishing. In some of the coves, or protected areas, the water temps were ranged from 58- to 60-degrees. A lot of anglers figured with this cold front moved in, it would be a tough bite. There were only a few beds made, but not many fish spawning. Some sight fishermen were successful, but not as far as the weights were concerned. Most of the better bags came from anglers continuing to fish for staging females that haven’t quite moved up to the flats yet. There were various lures used to catch the fish; Jigs, Plastics, Spinnerbugs and Senko style lures. So basically, if anglers weren’t fishing either spawning fish or keying on pre-spawning areas, fishing would have been tough for them all day. Of the 15 boats, there were 9 limits brought in and most of those anglers caught several fish throughout the day to get the sacks that they had. A lot of small fish caught, which basically means a lot of buck bass were running into the shallows looking for prime breeding grounds. Of the people that had limits, culling was a chore, since most were little dinks that were culled immediately. Several anglers stated that they probably caught 15 to 20 fish or better. A total of 56 fish were caught that brought in a Tournament Total Weight of 146.04lbs; an average of 2.60lbs per fish weighed in. Congratulations…ONCE AGAIN…Quillie & Robert Countiss for their victory. They didn’t quite have the sack that they were getting the past couple of tournaments, but coming in with better than 18lbs is a good sack on any day. They also anchored that with the “Big Fish” of the day as well going nearly 7lbs. There was a tie for 2nd Place, which went to the teams of James Williams/Jack Worton and also Chuck Conger who fished alone. Both of these teams had sacks that went nearly 16.50lbs each. Below are the Top 10 Standings of the day… Special Thanks: Once again, Thanks to Beaver Dam Park Staff Member Chris & Mel for allowing us to have yet another smooth morning. The Staff has been very helpful for us every morning, even though we try not to bother them too much. However, their assistance has been very welcome...Thanks Chris. There weren't as many anglers that participated, but those that did...Thanks. As usual, we always get volunteers at the Tournaments to help us out. Those in particular were the following...Orece Robinson who assisted with handling some of the paperwork and took photos, Joey Hollis did our Livewell Check that morning, Brian Eckstein verified and called out the weights for us as well as helping out at the Tube and Jack "Jack-Jack" Worton was our Weigh Master for the day. Big Thanks to you guys and it's always a pleasure to get the anglers involved. The next Boot'Legg Tournament on Beaver Dam will on May 14th 2005; however our next tournament will actually be on the Southside on April 24th. |
