Tournament Report

This was the 1st Annual USO Benefit Tournament which was held on Lake Whitehurst. The tournament was ran by the Bass Chasers of VA Beach. This event was sponsored by the USO of Hampton Roads, which provided Free McDonalds meal coupons for all the Anglers who participated, concert tickets and two $50 Gift Certificates from Bass Pro Shops. Also sponsoring the event was Gambler Lures, which provided lure packages, catalogs and Gambler Logo stickers. The MWR facilities also provided coolers, aerators and other needs for the event.

The turnout was slightly smaller than expected, but 15 teams showed up for this middle of the week event and consisted of 31 anglers in all. The weather was unbelievable nice; little breeze in the air and plenty of sun. Air Temps definitely got up to the 84-degrees that were called for. The Water temps that morning at Blast-Off was at 65-degrees and by days end it was no less than 69-degrees according to our electronics.

The Top 3 Anglers pattern for the day predominantly was done by sight fishing; however some fish were caught on a particular pattern. According to the winners, they predominantly sight fished their way to a win, using Slider type finesse worms. The Runner-Ups actually fished a pattern, using a combination of Gambler Bacon Rinds & Flapp’N Tail Worms (with a slit cut into the tail) as well as using Senko styled baits. Those in 3rd utilized Gambler Bacon Rinds as well as Jig’N Pigs to nab their fish; to include the Big Fish of the day..

Congratulations to the team of Matt Whitwell & Alex Bauder for their 1st Place finish. In 2nd Place were Neal Robinson & James Williams followed by Tim Ackal & Charley Workman in 3rd and Big Fish Honors.
