| The Beaver Dam “Big Bash” held its 3rd Qualifying Tournament Event for the year and surprisingly, the turnout didn’t produce a full field of 50 Teams; instead there were only 45 Teams which consisted of 84 total anglers participating. The weather was great; plenty of sun and not too windy as earlier prediction were made. It was cool in the morning, but tolerable and Water temps started off at 65-degrees and ended up around 74-degrees by tournaments end. The spawn has pretty much come and gone, with small signs of the spawn being left; old silted over beds and even fewer fry were seen. The technique/pattern on this day was a Junk Fest where anglers basically tossed the box at the fish, but were still catching fish; primarily in the morning. Plastics were probably the primary lure of choice, used with a variety of techniques. Obviously, the spawn is over, and like the Pre-Spawn the fish are starting to move out a little. Some anglers said that they caught a few fish on beds, but there weren’t many on them and they were too small to make the weight count. Those few beds remaining were probably affected by the cold front and the fish pulled off from the beds. As usual, the dominating area was the Rte 606 Creek Arm. There were plenty of limits brought into the scales; 26 in total and a total of 164 fish caught for the event. This tipped the days total tournament weight to a decent 290.05lbs (Avg of 1.76lbs per fish). John Permelia & Todd Taylor fished their traditional deep water patterns to pull in a winning sack that went over 15lbs, which was also anchored with the Big Fish for the day. Coming in 2nd was the Team of Jerry Jenkins & Ricky West and a half-pound behind them was Richard Thurston who has been fishing well this year by himself for the “Big Bash” events. Here is the entire field of anglers and their results... |
