This mornings weather was pleasant; a bit brisk, but tolerable and by day break, it warmed up. The day was breezy, but excellent for
fishing, unfortunately, someone forgot to tell the fish about that. Water temps didn’t fluctuate too much ranging from 57- to 60-degrees
throughout the day. Due to the lake draw down at Burnt Mills, we had to remove that from the lake drawings. Phil Schuyler had the
honor of drawing the lake, which was Lake Cohoon. With the Club vs. Club the day before, we were only able to conger up 16 boats
today (28 Anglers).
There just weren’t a lot of fish caught today. Nothing was reported biting…NOTHING!!! Anglers reported not receiving any bites from
Blue Gills, Pike, Bowfin, Gar and Bass. The bite just didn’t happen; there were no reports of just catching a bunch of small fish, pecks
from gills, the bite just wasn’t there. With 16 teams fishing, there was concern about being able to payout the 4 Places, else the pot
would have had to been split. It was so bad, that no one caught more than 2 fish and anglers with a fish had a shot at winning.
NOTE: There were several Boot’Legg All-Time Lowest Records broken and/or tied. Of the 8 fish caught, there was a tournament total
weight of 10.20lbs (record), Big Fish (record) and 2 consecutive back-to-back wins (tied).
Primary Pattern/Technique: HOPE was the primary pattern and technique. All anglers could do today was hope to catch a fish. If they
did, they were in contention of winning or placing in the money. A couple of fish were caught on the well-known #5 Shad Rap and the
others were from various plastics.
In Back-To-Back fashion, Parish Malone & Phil Schuyler took 1st Place once again and they also took Big Fish Honors with a dinky
1.58lb whopper. Fishing solo in 2nd Place was the Single Man’s Tournament Director, Rich Huyrn, who caught his fish near the end of
the day on consecutive casts. In 3rd Place was the Father & Son team of David & Derek Sandhoff. Coming in 4th Place was Steve
Plude & Randy Guess and in 5th Place were the brothers James & Bryan Dear. Sadly enough, there were 10 Teams that went without
a fish to way in. This was a tough day.
Thanks:
Once again, the Boot’Legg Legg Trail would like to thank those who participated on our last event on the Southside. We also would
like to recognize Todd Thompson for assisting at the weigh-in.
Special Thanks:
Lenny Shane & his wife provided the Boot’Legg Tournament Officials with 2 cakes to share with the Anglers. Per conversation with
Lenny, it was just a Thank You from him & his wife for all that the Trail has done for not just them, but for the Anglers on the
Southside. Oh, someone provided us with a knife to cut the cake, but we can't remember who, Thanks!!!
Lenny, we would like to THANK YOU as well for your support, generosity, companionship and more. You are not only a pioneer to
the areas anglers, but a true gentleman. We love you and we will see you on the water.
