| The 2005 Beaver Dam “Big Bash” Classic Event was held on October 15, which was probably one of the mildest Classic Events held; weather wise. It was rather cool starting off, running in the low 60’s and later it rose into the mid- to upper 70’s. Water temps started out at 64-degrees and reached no more than 69-degrees on most of the lake. You would think it was spring time, the way the conditions were, to include the gin clear water. There were 18 qualifying teams for this event, consisting of 34 anglers in all. The technique/pattern for this Classic was to hope for the kicker to hit; a kicker being not much more than 3lbs or so. With the exception of last year’s 13lb+ Classic weight, this was the 2nd highest winning weight for a Big Bash Classic Event. For whatever reason, October weights on this lake are always low. Strangely enough, 4 dinks and a kicker is a money sack here during the October Classic. There were plenty of fish to be caught, but they were too small to make a difference. Plastics were the main choice, used with a variety of techniques. Of the 18 boats, over half of the field brought limits into the scales and a total of 64 fish caught, tipping the total tournament weight to only 99.40lbs (Avg of 1.55lbs per fish). Tommy Clarke & Robert Jensen fished out in open water structure to pull off their Classic win. Jimmy Reed & Jerry Hogge took 2nd Place with the only other double digit weight in the tournament. Rounding out the Top 3 was the team of Kevin Johnson & Alan Gallagher, anchored with a 4.55lb kicker fish. Big Fish for the day came from Todd Godfrey, teamed up with Zabdyr Waclaw.
