BOOT'LEGG EVENT
Western Branch
09 March 2008

Tournament Report
by Jerry Patterson

The Boot’Legg Trail had their second event of the 2008 Season on March 9th with a nice turnout of 24 teams participating (47 Anglers).  This event was not much different than the first event of the year with the weather providing terrible conditions for the anglers.  The was really cold and windy; winds were pushing about 15-20 mph, making the already cold air temps much colder.  If you included the wind chill factor, the air temps were probably in the mid- to upper 30s that morning and it wasn’t until later in the afternoon where it warmed up enough for the anglers to tolerate fishing in the bitter wind conditions; air temps topped out in the low 40s.  Last tournament winners, Steve Plude had the honors of drawing the lake for the day – Western Branch.

Patterns – Pre-Spawn / Techniques – Jigs & Cranks.  Like most tournaments during this time of year, the bite was slow and far-and-few in between.  Anglers had to be simply keeping up their casts and hope for the best.  The majority of the field were casting Cranks (#7 Shad Raps) and the typical Jigs to get the few bites they had, leaving most anglers empty handed.  There was only 1-limit brought to the scales by Drew Brown & Wayne Garrett.  The tournament brought in a total of 34 fish, for a tournament total of 75.74lbs of fish.

The Tournament winners go out to James Williams & Gene North, who only brought 2 fish to the scales, but they also took the Big Fish prize with an 8.54lb fish.  That fish was recorded as the 2nd largest fish to win Big Fish Honors in Boot’Legg History.  Coming in 2nd was Drew Brown & Wayne Garrett (both of the Little Creek Anglers Club), while last weeks winner Steve Plude (& Ian Plude) came in 3rd Place.  Representing Bass Chaser’s & Rule 9 were the brothers of James & Brian Dear placed 4th.  Finishing the Top 5 were John “Rebel” Plyler & Jonathan Yost (Three Rivers Bass Club).
