The 5th Tournament for the Boot’Legg Trail had a fairly decent turnout, which brought 19 teams (36 anglers).  The weather conditions were expected to be nasty, with a lot of rain and thunder surrounding the area.  Fortunately for the anglers, the weather was a little wet at times and thunderous, but turned out to be pretty fair; cloudy and a few breezes, but it was actually nice.  The water temps were in the mid-60s nearly the entire day and most anywhere you went on the lake.  Lake drawn for the day – Lake Cohoon. 

Patterns – Bed Fishing / Techniques – Tubes & Jigs.  This isn't a surprise...bed fishing...was pretty much what all the teams were doing.  Most boats were either working a fish on a bed or had their trolling motors on high gear working the shoreline seeking good fish to bring to the scales.  Like last weeks Day 1 on Lake Cohoon, this week was just as impressive.  There were 85 fish brought to the scales, for Tournament Total Weight of 275.34lbs of fish; that is an average of 3.24lbs per fish.  The Tournament Total Weight is the second most weight brought in to a Boot'Legg event on record and also the second most fish brought in.

Coming in 1st Place today with a HUGE sack were Bobby Kinsey & Randy Broughman, who brought in the 3rd largest sack in the 5 years Boot'Legg has been around, going 25.02lbs; they had a nice kicker at 7.10lbs as well.  Another good sack was that of Drew Brown & Wayne Garrett (both of Little Creek Anglers Club) who brought in 22.82lbs worth of fish; they also took Big Fish that weight 8.70lbs.  Father & Son team of Orece & Neal Robinson placed 3rd with another 22lbs of fish.  Running 4th was James Williams & Gene North, closely followed by Sam North & Russ Hall; both teams had 19+lbs of fish. 

Honorable Mention:

James Williams & Randy Broughman fished the day before on Lake Gaston, competing in another larger event where they took 1st Place in that event.  Also, Orece & Neal Robinson fished in the Beaver Dam "Big Bash" tournament and managed a 2nd Place finish.  John "Rebel" Plyler also received the $35 Bass Pro Shop Gift Card today.

Mike Gizara always deserves credit out there on the Portsmouth lakes for making things run smooth for all the anglers when they show up to fish tournaments.  He also ensures that the anglers receive all the assistance they need during recovery.  We should all thank Lenny Shane's wife for the batch of cookies she always makes for the tournaments; they seem to get gone by the end of the day.  Another thanks to Lenny Shane for providing Bass Pro Shop Gift Certificates and handing them out at the draw.  Jerry Patterson did a great job, as usual, helping out as the Weigh Master and Neal Robinson was able to take photos for the tournament event.
