BOOT'LEGG EVENT
Lake Meade
24 February 2008

Tournament Report
by Jerry Patterson

The Boot’Legg Trail opened the 2008 Season on the 24th of February with a surprise turnout considering the conditions.  The Trail had 19 teams participating in the ‘Frost Bite’ tournament and the cold conditions allowed the event to live up to its name; morning temps were in the 30s and maybe hit the mid-40s by midday and there was a bitter cold wind all day.  The water temps were a bit better, but expected; ranging from 46-degrees in the morning and reaching 49-degrees by the end of the tournament.  The new Tournament Director, Lenny Shane, allowed the newly appointed Asst Director, Jerry Patterson to draw the lake to be fished on the day – Lake Meade.

Patterns – None / Techniques – Jigs & Cranks.  The bite was very slow, as can be seen by the tournament results, but that was expected with the fishing conditions the anglers faced.  Anglers had to be patient and fish slow for their bites, which were far and few.  The fish left the participants with disappointing results.  There were no limits brought in and most of the field brought in at least 1 fish.  The event only saw a total of 22 fish brought to the scales, for a tournament total of 51.62lbs of fish.

Someone had to win the event…And the winner is...Steve Plude & Jake Davis, of which they also took the Big Fish prize, with a 5.28lb fish.  Placing 2nd was the team of Bobby Kinsey & Randy Broughman; coming in 3rd were Scott & Paul Styron.  Representing Bass Chaser’s & Rule 9 are Kevin Mills & Mike Crescini in 4th Place and rounding out the 5th spot were last years Team of the Year Runner-Ups Rick Williams & Bubba Driscoll.

Thanks:

The Sentry truck stop was greeted well by Lenny Shane who offered several dozen doughnuts for the participants to curve their morning appetites, to include a $25 Bass Pro Shop Gift Certificate.  Funny thing is, Lenny had Jerry Patterson draw names out of a hat for the Gift Certificate, which Jerry happened to draw Lenny Shane’s name; to be fair, Lenny stated that it wasn’t for him to win and allowed him.  Jerry then drew another name out of the hat, which lo-and-behold, he draws his own name.

Additional thanks to Cab Beedie, who stepped up this year to be one of the Tournament Officials and helping out.  He was the acting Weigh Master for the day, which there is always a need for.  Thanks again, for all those participating and we will see you at the next tournament on March 9th; remember though, this is Daylight Savings Time, which time will spring forward that night.
