*** BassJons Tourney Results - Lake Smith - 6 March 10

1st Place - Rick Cornett and James Brown

2nd Place (Big Fish) - Arte and Roccoa Spurlin

3rd Place - Will Sparrow and Mike Schneider
35 anglers fished Bass-Jon’s first tournament of 2010 at Lake Smith/Little Creek in Virginia Beach. With a small warming trend over the last two days, there were high hopes for catching some good limits. The weather was as great as the turnout... Sunny and breezy. Surface water temps starting out at 42 and climbed to 48. The anglers managed to bring 12 bass to the scales (the winter pattern continues…). Roccoa and Arte Spurlin brought a 6 pound 10 ounce HAWG to the scales, which was good for big fish and is the Lunker of the year to date; but even with the big 6+ pounder, it wasn’t enough to beat out Rick Cornett and James Brown’s 3 fish, 9 pound 6 ounce sack for first place. Most catches were reported on crankbaits and jig/pig combos. Congratulations to Roccoa, Arte, Rich and JB.

*** Singleman Results 14 Feb 2010 - by Lenny Shane

Well the bass put a whooping on us! Ten 10 anglers with only three bass caught today on Lake Prince. John “REBEL” Plyler winning with 2 bass for a total of 6.68 lbs plus he Lunker with a nice 4.24 lb fish. Bryan Dear was 2nd with 1 bass 2.33 lbs. We were greeted with a light layer of ice at the ramp this morning, my temp gauge said 34 degrees and never got above 38. I’m sure back in a cove somewhere you could have found warmer water. Rebel caught his winning big bass in the first 5 minutes of the tournament. It turned out to be a good day on the water and thank everyone for making it possible.
*** Florida Fishing Report - Lake Harris - Jan 2010 by Jim Carlson

Hello from Florida. I have been fishing Lake Harris in Lake County Florida all of January with little success until this week. The first two weeks in January were the coldest ever down here and shut everything down. This week they started to move in. I landed a 7 pounder earlier in the week and today I dragged an 8 pounder in over the lily pads and the weed line. ( Got to love that Power Pro ) It will be great to fish from a boat again. I do not have a boat down here so I must fish from the shore. The good news is that the weather has been so cold I have not been chased by any Alligators or Snakes this year. We will be returning to Virginia early next week and hope to see you all on the water soon.
Good Fishing! Jim Carlson
*** BassJons Winter Series - Lake Smith - 14 Jan 2010 by Mike Peregrine

A great day to be on the water! The ramp area at Lake Smith was iced over with a 1-3 inch sheet of ice covering the area from the ramp for about 200 yards out to the main lake area! So after some debate we decided to go for it, busted out the anchors and started breaking up the ice. Once we had enough broken up at the ramp, Romel and Lenny launched Romel’s boat and they became ice breakers and cleared a path for everyone to get out to the main lake. What a morning! Look for the video to be on you tube. Once we all got on the water, at about 8:30, we fished until 12:00 and after all that work, no fish were caught…oh well, it’s fishing not catching. Surface water temps started at 36 and managed 42 in some spots. You couldn’t fish the arms, shallow bays, or get through the cut over to the Lawson side of the lake-all iced in, but the sun and light breeze made for a nice morning on the water. The overall standings are posted on the “Club Issues” message board, and as usual, it’s a tight race. Next tournament: Saturday, 23 Jan, see you there.
