Bass-Jon’s July 24th tournament was held at Lake Cahoon.  Out of the 14 teams that fished, 9 brought in 5-fish limits; however, big fish were hard to find.  Dan Griffin and Mike Howie managed a good summer limit of 13lbs 14oz, which was anchored by Mike Howie's 7 lb 2 oz hawg.  As the summer heats up, so does Mike, as he has managed to take lunker and first place in two of the last three events.  Typical of tough mid-summer conditions, most fish were taken on plastics, with green pumpkin, black, and junebug taking the majority of the fish.  The air temperature was an unprecedented 100+ degrees, with water temperatures creeping up into the 90's.  Bass-Jons will be in action again in two weeks, facing off in a club-vs-club matchup with Rule9.  Top 10:

Bass-Jon’s July 10th tournament was held at the Nottaway River.  10 teams fished and all but one managed 5-fish limits.  All limits were generally small.  Roccoa and Sandy were able to take first place with an 8-pound, 4-ounce limit.   They also tied for big fish of the day with Will Sparrow and Brian with a 2-pound, 6-ounce bass. A lot of fish were reportedly caught with June-bug and black-blue as the colors of the day.  Some reports of crank-baits, and top-water taking a few fish.  The weather was great.  It was overcast most of the day with intermittent sunshine.  A good breeze also helped to keep the heat down. Next tournament July 24th.

Bass-Jon’s 9th tournament was held on June 26th at Lake Prince.  In addition to the previous 8 qualifiers, Luther Showaker, Jon Guzman, James Brown, and Dennis Sclater have also qualified to fish the annual classic.  Members need to fish eight tournaments in order to qualify.  Five fish limits were like gold if you could get one.  Of the 15 teams, only 3 brought limits to the scales.  If you couldn’t get a limit, you needed a lunker... Mike Howie and Mike Peregrine weighed 3 fish for 10lbs, 8ozs and their lunker of 6lbs put them on top for the day.  A variety of techniques were used to put fish in live wells with plastics as the bait of choice.  The weather was bright, sunny and HOT!!  A nice breeze and intermittent clouds helped a lot.  Next tournament is, July 10th.  Top 10:

8 teams / 12 anglers fished Burnt Mills.  28 relatively small bass were weighed in.  James Williams/Gene North notched their 20th win with 5 bass for 12.20 lbs.  Brad Webb/Danny Ferk were 2nd with 5 bass for 11.69 lbs.  3rd was Drew Brown with 11.07 lbs.  Lenny Shane had big bass at 4.32 lbs.  Next Sunday July 4th there is a Bootlegg tournament.  Brad and Danny are trying something new.  We will all meet at the truck stop next Sunday morning, but instead of drawing a lake, we can go to any of the 5 lakes we want.  The weigh-in will be at Western Branch at 4:30 sharp.  We can stay in the same lake all day, fish 2 different lakes, or all 5 lakes if you want to in the same day.
