 Open Area Tourneys

Open Single Man Tournaments

  • The Singleman is one of the oldest tournament trails in Suffolk and is still running! This has been the starting ground for all the Suffolk clubs and current trails. Some of the best known local anglers fish this circuit. Come out and join the fun, the fishing. The Singleman is now under new management, Jerry Patterson has taken over the reins from Rich Huryn who has been running it for years very successfully. Jerry has affiliated the Singleman with Bass-Jon’s, so there will be regular tourney results and pictures posted on the” Latest Buzz”. Plus they’ll be included in the Boot’Legg Peninsula Rankings. Since the Singleman is a year round circuit,  points will only be calculated from March - Nov. The points awarded will be compensatory with the numbers of boats present and as it is done for all clubs / trails.

*** Bass'n-9 Interclub Tournament Rules (Not an Open Tourney)

  • Participants for this tournament will consist of members from Bass-Jons, Rule 9 and Howmet bass clubs.
  • The tournament will last from sunrise until 1400 (2:00 PM) or a mutually agreed upon time, to accommodate for severe weather and/or picnic arrangements.
  • The tournament will be hosted by each club on a rotational basis.  The host club will determine the body of water that will be fished that year and a mutually agreed upon date to fish.  The club will pick from a list of bodies of water that, as a group, all clubs have agreed to.  If Cohoon-Meade is drawn, entrants have the option of fishing either lake.
  • There will be no limit to amount of boats each club can field in the tournament.  There is a maximum of two (2) anglers per boat, but clubs may fish one (1) angler per boat if desired.  The club that fields the least amount of boats will determine the number of boats that will count towards the club versus club total weight.  For example, let’s say Bass-Jon’s has 14 boats, Rule 9 has 11 boats and Howmet has 8 boats.  Bass-Jon's and Rule 9 can only use its Top 8 weights for the competition.  Each club must field at least eight (8) boats to claim the title of BASSN’9 Season Champ.  However, all participants are eligible for Lunker and side pot prizes.
  • The cost of the tournament is five ($5) per person.  The pot will be a 100% payback awarded to the angler who weighs the heaviest bass that day.  There will be a side pot of $10 per boat (optional) and will be paid out to the higher finisher of those who paid to participate in the side pot.
  • There will be a five (5) fish limit per boat.  There is NO MINIMUM size limit.  All fish must be kept in an aerated live well.  All live fish are to be released in the lake they were caught in.
  • There will be a four (4) ounce penalty per dead fish.  This penalty will be deducted from the total weight.  A dead fish is defined as one that cannot right itself and swim away upon release.  This deduction also applies to the big fish.
  • Club tournament directors will inspect opposing club’s live wells prior to blast off.  If a contestant from any club is late, he must find an angler from an opposing club to inspect his/her live well prior to fishing.
  • All fishing must be done from inside your boat.  No changing of partners is permitted.
  • All fish must be taken by sport fishing methods.  Netting, foul hooking, etc….of fish is not permitted.  This does NOT include landing nets used to boat fish taken by legal tournament methods.
  • No trolling is permitted.  No live or prepared baits may be used or possessed.  Pork baits and self-applied fish attractants are authorized.
  • Only one rod may be used at a time by any angler.  Being used is defined as having the bait in the water, whether or not the angler is holding the rod.
  • Competitors may not handle or possess fish caught by other competitors.  You may handle your partner’s fish if fishing two to a boat.
  • Anyone issued a citation from a Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries officer or Norfolk/Portsmouth Lake Patrol shall be disqualified from the tournament.  Anyone getting a citation and failing to bring it to the attention of the tournament directors will disqualify their entire club.
  • Competitors may not fish within twenty-five (25) yards of another boat.  If you feel you are encroached upon by another angler/team, you must issue a verbal statement to the impeding boat as to this nature.
  • Competitors must be back to the weigh-in site by the tournament finish time on the tournament director’s watch.  Anyone not back in time will be penalized eight (8) ounces per minute.  All fractions of a minute will be rounded up to the next whole minute.  More than ten (10) minutes late will result in disqualification from the tournament.
  • All clubs catches will be weighed on the same scale.  The cumulative weight (minus penalties) from each club will determine the winning club for this event.
  • The tournament directors may penalize/disqualify any entrant for any violation of the tournament rules, lake rules, Virginia fishing regulations or unsportsmanlike conduct.
  • This tournament will have three directors (one from each club) acting jointly and concurring on all decisions.  Their joint decision is final.
  • Any grievances shall be brought to the attention of tournament directors prior to weigh-in.
  • All clubs shall display a web banner type trophy on their home page for the entire period between this tournament and the following inter-club tournament.  Each trophy will clearly identify the winner of the tournament.
