The weather Sat was windy, cold and the front had the fish in a slow mode. Fish were caught, on a variety of soft plastics and crank baits. The air temp was sixty; water temp started off at 59 degrees and warmed up to 63 by days end. The big fish were hoping for eluded most of the anglers, numbers were taken, but size hard to come by. The chain pickerel were everywhere. Jim Carlson and Roccoa Sprurlin took home the honors as classic champs with 10.80 lbs.

Okay the day was perfect, for our last regular tourney of the season. Cool temperatures, light winds and the water temp in the low seventies. The fish are starting to finally chew. The best bites for most anglers happen later in the day. Most fish caught on plastics, some Top water and even a few on jigs. Jerry Patterson won with 13 lbs and caught all his keeper fish in the last forty five minutes of the tourney. We had three nice lunkers bought to the weigh in, Mike Howie with a nice 5.7 lb on a Pig & Jig, Jerry with a 5.5 lbs and Mike Peregrine with the Lunker of the day at 6.00 lbs. Well it was a great day being on the water. Air temps in the eighties, water temp around 73 degrees, light winds. The boat ramp reports had most fish taken on soft plastics and top water, the colors of choice June bug, and black seem to work the best.

Lake Whitehurst Tourney Results 22 Sept 07

Wow, what a day. We had eight boats fishing the tourney, a low turn out mainly because a lot of our club members don’t like Lake Whitehurst. Well Saturday’s results gave them plenty of reason to dislike the lake for sure. The tourney numbers were low to say the least. The winning weight was 2.8 lbs by Huck Palmatier and Steele Bryum. The Lunker was only 1.8 lbs. The day started off looking good, with cool nights the water temp was at 72 degrees, air temp around the mid 80’s. But the bite was the worst we have seen all year. No real pattern to speak of, the fish that were caught came off soft plastics and crank baits.

Wow what a great day on the water. The temps were in the low eighties, water temp at 85 degrees. A light breeze made the day almost prefect. The results were mixed between anglers. The 6.9 lb Lunker of the day caught by Bill Sparrow was taken on a top water “Rico” and the runner up 5.8 lb was taken on a Pig & Jig. The rest of the field seems to have better luck with soft plastics. The winners take most of their fish on trick worms and report having caught over 18 fish all during the day.

North West River Tounrey Results 25 Aug 07

Okay, it started hot and then it just got worst. I believe the heat index was around 105 degrees. Water temp right around 85 degrees. Sunny, hot, humid and very little wind. The river produced as it always does, everyone but one had their five fish limits. The limits were small. Reports had most fish taken on soft plastics; morning top-action was good. Fish shutdown from 10 – 2. Kevin Mills took the honors this week; he caught all his keepers off one tree.

    Well the forth annual Bass'n-9 Tourney is over and Rule-9 took the honors this year. Total weight for Rule-9: 98.71lbs with 51 fish, Bass-Jon’s 58.05 lbs with 40 fish. This by far has been the best turn out for the annual tourney. Bass-Jon’s looks forward to next year. Congratulations Rule-9, it has been four years in the making, well done. Lunker of the day and prize money went to Brad Webb with his 6.19. Well it was hot, humid and sticky to say the least, most anglers had trouble finding fish, but Jesse & Jesse seem to have no problem locating fish.

Another great day on the water. The air temp was in the low seventies and water temp around 75 degrees. The wind was about 5 mph. The weights for June were not bad and everyone caught fish. What a great day on the water. Air temps in the 80’s, water temperatures in the mid 70’s, the wind was light all day, started off sunny and turned cloudy in the afternoon. We managed 14 boats for the tourney. Odd day of fishing, no real pattern to speak of, the reports had them being taken on everything in the box. Northwest River Tourney Results 19 May 07

Everyone thought it might not turn out to be a good day with all the recent weather changes. But again, the fish proved us wrong. The temperatures got to the low seventies and water temperatures in 62 – 65 degree range, sunny to over cast skies made for an enjoyable day on the water. We had 15 boats and all of them managed to get a limit. Kevin Mills proved once again he is the master on Northwest, his fish netted him first place at 17 lbs and Lunker of the day at 5.00 lbs. The top water bite was on in the morning and lasted for 2 to 3 hours. It seem the fish liked what ever was being put in front of them, crank baits, jigs and any kind of soft plastic. The Lunker of the day came on a Pig &Jig. Sorry, no pictures left the camera at home.

Wow what a great day on the water. The weather had below normal temperatures in the mid sixties with overcast skies all day long, and water temp right at 65 degrees. However the fish were on! Some nice fish made it to the weigh in. Have not seen weights like this at Whitehurst in years. The pig & Jig seem to be the bait choice of the day for the fish, but worms and senkos had their fair share of the glory in taking the fish. Okay, from weeks of bad weather, cold days and nights. It seem that we finally caught a break the weather was stable for a few days prior to the tourney. The water temp started at 58 degrees and by days end it was 65 degrees. Air temp was in the mid seventies, little to no wind which made for a good day for bed fishing. There were tons of beds and fish on them, lots of them were rolling on each other making it near impossible to catch them. Others were so skittish keeping them on the beds was a chore, but then there were the select few that were locked on. A couple more days of this weather and it will be full on. We even had reports of fish guarding fry. Most reports had fish taken with a pig & jigs or some sort of soft plastic. Here are the results, a full set of pictures on the tourney results page.

The reports prior to the tourney didn’t have us hoping for big sacks. The water temp was 55 degrees at the start of the day. The air temp wasn’t much better, cloudy skies, raining in the morning made bed fishing a chore. But Mike Cresini is on fire with his fourth straight win and a bag of 18.02 lbs. Others found fish as well and some Hawgs were taken by the team of Jim Carlson & Tom Lang who brought in a nice 6.09 lb Hawg. Reports had the fish acting real skittish not hanging tight to their beds and lots of reports of seeing fish rolling on each other. The baits use range from pig & jig to crank baits. However Kevin Mills sack came off beds by down sizing to 1/16 oz jig and 4 lb test. We hosted 15 boats for the event.

The day started off a little cool, but the sun and mild temp quickly rose to bring in an excellent fishing day. The water temp was 59 to 60 at the start of the day and ended up around 65 degrees. We hosted 17 boats for the event. The reports of the big sacks came Anglers working the beds, but others had luck finding some on crank-baits and pig & jigs.

The second tourney of the season for Bass-Jon’s and we had 17 boats. The day started off cold and it just got worst throughout the day, with temperatures dropping and to the point of snowing. The water temp started at 49 degrees and really never changed during the course of the day. But fish were being caught. Most fish taken on crank-baits.

Wow what a great start to a SEASON. The weather was outstanding. As predicted the three days of warm weather turn the bite on for some. Tim Ackal has set the bar for Lunker of the Year with a nice 7.02 lb Hawg. But Mike Cresini and Jon Guzman came in with 18.06 lbs to win the tourney, anchored by a 6.09 Lunker. Alex Bauder came in second fishing solo with 16.01 lbs. Reports had most fish taken on Pig & Jigs, while Alex had his luck with a Nr 5 Shad Rap.
