  • We drew Western Branch, nine Bass-Jon's vs eight Rule-9 boats. Both clubs had seven boats weighing fish. It was tough fishing to say they least. It was a bitter cold in the morning with temps in the low 30's, water temp was still 58 degrees. Had a limit of pickerel by 0800, anybody throwing crank-baits and spinner-baits had the same results. But Bass-Jon's had a 11 more lbs than Rule-9 members in the end. So Bass-Jon's has won again; two years in a row and retained the title of Bass'n-9 Champs. Rule-9 caught more fish, 22 and we caught 14, but they were all good size. I managed only one fish but she was 4.08 lbs, Jim Carlson caught a nice 4.12 lbs for Lunker of the day. Jerry Patterson brought it home with a nice five fish limit of 10.06 lbs caught on Senkos and Pig & Jigs. Only three limits were brought in Sam North and Ronnie Lentz from Rule-9 and Jerry Patterson from Bass-Jon's. But we all had a great day on the water and the interaction between the clubs this year was fantastic. The story of the day was James Osby of Rule-9 was running wide open and hit a aerator pipe and it pulled his motor right off the back end and into the drink it went 10 - 11feet down. We marked it with a buoy and he was towed back to the ramp where he found some re-bar and fashioned a drag hook and retrieve his motor, now that's a fish story. I would like to thank all club members from both clubs for a great time, it's great to meet and talk to each other and I hope this continues for many years to come. Special tanks to Mike Schneider, Ronnie Lentz from Rule-9 and Jim North of Bass-Jon's, which help run this tourney.

  • The classic turned out great, the weather was warm a bit wind at times. The air temp in the mid seventies, water temp right at 60 degrees. We had eight teams fishing the classic event, the fish were at least biting and five teams bought limits to the scales. Jerry Patterson & Scott Waterman won the classic with 10.08 lbs, they caught their fish on Senko's in lay-downs in the sun when the wind was blowing the hardest. Lots of soft plastics used, but spinner-baits and crank baits still produced . A great ending to 2005 and Bass-Jon's 5th Season. We handed out our Lunker of the Year award to Jim Carlson with his 8.08 lb Hawg caught in the first tourney of the year. Matt Whitwell was named Bass-Jon's Angler of the Year. We also presented a hat to Neil Robinson from Boot'Legg web Site and Trail, for his support and service to both Bass-Jon?s and Boot'Legg . Well it started off a little cool in the morning but warmed up to be a beautiful day, with air temps in the 70's. It was breezy all day long and water temps in the high 60's. Although hugh bags were not brought in, five teams managed limits for the day out of 12 teams that fished. Fish were taken on a variety of baits today, everything from any kind of soft plastics to crank-baits, spinner-baits and jigs. No real pattern to speak seems everyone had a different story to tell, other than tight to wood.

  • 1st: Matt Whitwell                                   3 Fish, 10.00 lbs Lunker 4.00 lbs

Lake Whitehurst - 1 Oct 05

Bill & Mike take 1st place

Scott & Rex with 2nd        John with Lunker

What a beautiful day on the water. Air temps in the seventies, wind blowing out of the east around 5 - 10 mph. Sunny to Partly cloudy skies, water temps 73 degrees. Getting bass to bite was another story altogether. We had 11 boats for the tourney with only one limit brought to the scale and six teams with fish. Spinner-baits and crank baits are gaining favor with the bass as downsized plastics for this tourney anyway. Mike Cooper and his Father-in-Law ?Bill? took first place with 12.10 lbs not bad with just four fish. Jerry Patterson and John Cook took Lunker honors with a nice 4.08 lb Hawg.

  • 1st: Mike Copper & Guest ?Bill?                       4 Fish, 12.10 lbs, Lunker 4.06 lbs
  • 2nd: Rex Shell & Scott waterman                     3 Fish, 7.02 lbs

Steve & Kenny take 3rd                                  Rex & Craig with a 4th

Scott Waterman 5th

We thought the hot weather was behind us, but Saturday proved us wrong. Temps were in the 90's, water temp started out at 76 and ended up around 79 in the main lake, wind wasn't a factor today. Fourteen boats fished the tourney with 5 limits being caught. A variety of baits were used to catch fish, Senko's, worms, almost any kind of plastics you can throw it was in the water. Lots of small fish taken, didn't matter if you were fishing close to shore or in eighteen feet. But a few quality fish were caught.

  • 1st: Matt Whitwell & Stan Stockton                  5 Fish, 9.06 lbs, Lunker 4.04 lbs
  • 2nd: Derrick Sandhoff & Victor Lopez                4 Fish, 8.14 lbs, Lunker 3.14 lbs
  • 3rd: Kenny Boulier & Steve Loveless                5 Fish, 7.12 lbs, Lunker 3.06 lbs

Lake Smith - 3 Sept 05

            Jon & Alex 1st place                   Jim & Scott  2nd & Lunker

Bob & Mike take 3rd.

Okay, we can say the weather was perfect. Low eighties, wind out of the north 5 - 25 mph, water temp at 79. We fielded eleven teams, due the Labor Day Weekend. There was a mix bag of results , with the top three bringing the only limits of the day. But Alex Bauder had a great day with 14.02 lbs. Lunker of the day at 6.04 lbs and second place went to Jim Gerdes & Scott Waterman. Soft plastics rule the day for most, but Alex claim success on a Spinnerbait. Fish tight to wood or anything in the water, be it a laydown, clump of grass or floating stick.

  • 1st: Alex Bauder & Jon Guzman                  5 Fish, 14.02 lbs
  • 2nd: Jim Gerdes & Scott Waterman             5 Fish, 10.06 lbs, Lunker 6.04.lbs
  • 3rd: Bob Bullen & Mike Crescini                  5 Fish, 10.00 lbs

Okay, can you say hot! The day started out with fog locking us down for the first hour or so of the tourney. Once it burn off, the heat set in and sweating began. The tourney fielded 14 boats and at least every boat had a fish. Some fair better than others, Senko's and worms seem to be the pattern of the day if you can it a pattern. However big fish of the day was taken on a jig. Fish tight to cover and lay downs. Early morning close to the bank as the heat set in they moved off into deeper water.. My partner an I were catching fish throughout the day. We managed 10 bass and the best five hit just over 7 lbs but enough to win the tourney. We also had about 15 others then lost count of bowfin, chain pickerel, bluegill you name we had on the other end of our line.

  • 1st: Bob Bullen & John Cook                      5 Fish, 7.04 lbs

Wow, it was hot! Saw water temps in the high eighties. Fishing was extremely tough, as someone at the weigh in said "It's was tougher than a woodpecker's lips out there." We had fourteen teams fish with four limits bought in and two with no fish. However someone always finds them and this time it was Alex Bauder & Scott Waterman with an early morning top water bite. Western Branch - 9 July 05

Bob & Jon take first         Nick & Rob with 2nd                    Jim takes 3rd

  • Well it was a tough day of fishing for sure. First no limits brought to the scales, matter of fact. If you had two fish you were doing something. It was windy, bluebird skies and was it ever hot, easily into the mid-nineties. The conditions vary with the wind throughout the day, water temp started at 80 and quickly rose to 84. We accomplished a first at a Bass-Jon's tourney with a single fish took Lunker and 1st place. The few fish that were caught, had reports a couple on top water, crank bait and the rest on some sort of soft plastic . The sunfish, yellow perch were very active. It's the time of the year to get some red wrigglers, crickets and bring the kids out and let them have a ball. Complete set of pictures on the Tourney Results page.

 Burnt Mills - 25 June 05

Matt & Steve with 1st place                               Jerry & Jim take 3rd

Bob & Roger take 4th place

The day started out with a fog bank and turn sunny and warm. Light winds, air temps in the eight's , water temps started out at 80 and reach 85 by days end.. The real surprise was the water color, never seen Burn Mills so green and almost murky. The further you went back the clear it got. Reports at the ramp had the fish being caught on a variety of baits, but Senko seem to be a name heard more than others. The winning weight of 16.10 was taken by the team of Matt Whitwell and Steve Loveless, most of their fish came from the Gambler Baby Bacon and Bacon Rind. A special thanks to Tim Ackal, Charley Workman and Gambler Lures for supplying the club samples of their products.

Lake Prince - 11 June 05

Well it didn't rain and now I can say it's summer time. Water temp started at 77 degrees, wind mild and air temp in the high 80's or low 90's, but the sun made it feel worst. But that didn't stop 19 boats from Bass-Jon's to compete in the June event. The weights brought into the weigh in were decent for the weather conditions. The favorite bait of the day, Senkos, flukes and worms. Most of the big fish were caught just minutes before the tourney ended. Just goes to show, fish to the last possible minute. The Lunker of the Day was taken by Jesse Munden was landed at 3:40 and Matt Whitwell landed his 5.02 fish at 3:30.

Lake Whitehurst - 28 May 05

John & Kenny take 1st                                Bob & Matt with 2nd

Huck with Lunker

Well the day started off just fine, about an hour into the tourney it started to rain. But the rain burned off and blue bird skies appeared, light winds with temps in the low eighties remained for the rest of the day. Water temp started at 69 and ended up around 83 degrees. Several brought sacks in above 10 lbs, which is great for Whitehurst. The winning weight was 15 lbs. 12 oz, five fish limit brought in by Kenny Boulier & John Cook. The Lunker of the day was hauled in by the team of Huck Palmatier & Walt DeGraaf which had big fish with a 5.14 lb Hawg. Reports had Senko and Baby Brush Hog's as big fish getters of the day, but spinner-baits, crank baits and other soft plastics had an equal showing. All in all a great day for Whitehurst, all the anglers that brought five fish to the scales were also culling throughout the day.

Lake Meade - 14 May 05

The day turned out to be beautiful, warm and sunny at times, some light to strong winds. The water was still pretty muddy in most parts of the lake, back further in the coves it was much clearer. Reports at weigh in were some fish were caught on beds, but no where it was two weeks ago. More fish caught guarding fry. A variety of baits brought fish in Pig & Jig's, Senko's and sliders. Matt Whitwell is on fire this year with another win under his belt. See Tourney Results page for more photo's.

What started off as being a day the weatherman said would have rain and thunderstorms in the afternoon, but turn out to be just fine. The wind was still present but so were the bass. All I can say is when I come in 5th with 17.08 Lbs and a 5.12 Lb kicker fish, you know Western Branch was on. Lots of fish taken with Senko's, Pig & Jigs, tubes and variety of soft plastics. The Lunker a 6.06 Lb Hawg with three other fish in their sack of 17.12 Lbs, Team Rob Brewer & Steve Loveless caught them all on suspending crank baits. We had 18 Boats fish the tourney with 235 lbs brought to the scales with the average fish weighing 3.5 lbs.  Lake Smith - 18 April 05

Kevin Mills          Geophery Mills & Jerry Patterson

Bob Bullen & Ronnie Lentz with Lunker

  • Okay there is wind and then there was we saw at the tourney. White caps and high winds on Lake Smith limited some of the more productive areas of the lake, boat handling was a chore no matter your location, but main lake points or anywhere on the main lake the wind made it impossible to fish. The cold front that moved in the last two days had it?s effect of the fishing, water temperature actually went down from a week prior, it was 52 degrees when we started and made it to 55 degrees. Cold, windy made it hard to fish. Only one angler managed a 5 fish limit. One report on a fish being caught off a bed, the rest were either brought in with Senkos, Pig & Jig and or some sort of down sized plastic. Fourteen boats fish the tourney with ten bringing in fish.

Lake Cohoon - 2 April 05

Dave Evans & Jerry Patterson                         Jim Carlson & John Cook

  • Well it was very windy and rain throughout the entire day except for the weigh in. Still a tough day on the water only one limit Had 18 boats scheduled and only 14 shown to brave the weather. But every team but one at least had a fish. It looked as if Jim Carlson was going to make it three in a row, but Dave Evans & Jerry Patterson manager to take first and Lunker. Water temps recorded from 55 - 59 degrees depending your location on the lake, high winds with gusts in the 35 - 40 mph range. Fish caught on a variety of lures, the Lunker of the Day caught by Dave Evans weighed 7.04 lbs and was landed on a Spinnerbait. The rest of the fish came on Pig & Jigs, numerous types of soft plastics and crank bait. Figure a solid pattern, hard to say. But the surprise of the day was the report of several of the fish came off beds. That being said "It?s on".

      Derek & Stan                                    Kenny                              Jerry

John & Matt             Jesse                              Jim & Geophery

Well it was a beautiful day. Temps reached in the high 50's, reports from anglers had water temps ranging from 52 to 55 degrees. Although a great day for us , the fishing proved to be a bit more tough. No real pattern to speak of , fish were caught on Pig & jig, Crank baits and Spinner-Baits. But Jim Carlson did it again second tourney in a row to take first and he did it again on the Silver Buddy. Following close behind was Jeff & Katie Kessler to take second on a Senko knock-off. Twelve boats.  More pictures on the Tourney Results Page.

Lake Prince - 5 March 05

Mike Cooper & Jim Carlson

K enny Boulier                        Matt Whitwell                    Scott Waterman

  • Well the it was Bass-Jon's first tourney of the year. Woke up and went out hook the boat up it was 47 degrees and actually felt pretty good. Got to Lake Prince we all got our boats in the water, still 47 degrees, water temp at 45 degrees, cloudy and a slight breeze. By 9 o?clock the temperature dropped to 37, it started to rain and didn?t stop until weigh in. We started out with 15 boats, with six of them bringing in fish. As noted before someone always figures them out and this week it was Jim Carlson & Mike Cooper. Silver buddies brought the win and Lunker to weigh in, the rest of fish were on crank baits, pig & jig's and spinner bait. But Jim Carlson has set the bar high for the Lunker of the Year race with his 8.8 lbs Hawg.
  • 1st: Jim Carlson & Mike Cooper                         4 Fish, 16.04 Lbs, Lunker 8.08 lbs
