Both Jim North & Walt DeGraaf took Lunker of the Year awards with 7.06 lb Hawgs

  •  The temps were cold, high pressure with blue bird skies made for a tough bite. The water temp started at 55 and by days end was reaching 59 in some parts of the lake, air temp started at 38 degrees and warmed to 50. The eleven teams that braved the cold opted to fish instead of hunt found fish. Jerry Patterson our Angler of the Year capped off his season by winning the classic. His persistence of fishing the lay downs proved to be the winning pattern. Some reports had them catching fish all day, while others said it turned on at 3 pm. Here are the reports, pictures to follow.

  •    What a beautiful day on the water. High pressure, blue bird skies I had my doubts about how good the fishing would be with a sudden cold snap. But was I wrong, Stan and Derek commenced a whopping on our butts. Their five fish limit was 18.08 lbs all on crank baits. Kenny and Nathan followed close behind with a nice sack that weighed 16.02 lbs. Kevin and Mike didn’t have a bad day either and managed to bring in a nice 5.14 lb hawg to capture the Lunker prize. Everyone caught fish and the reports at the weigh seem like the fish were biting everything. But the big ones wanted a crank bait of spinner bait.
  • 1st: Stan Stockton & Derek Sandhoff                5 Fish, 18.08 lbs, Lunker 5.02 lbs
  • 2nd: Kenny Boulier & Nathan Britt                     5 Fish, 16.02 lbs, Lunker 4.02 lbs

  • Well summer is came back, water temps started out at 78 degrees and rose to 88 by the end of the day. All anglers brought fish to the scales. But the majority were small and most taken early in the day. Jerry Patterson and Jim North managed to find a summer hawg at 1230 the 6.10 lb fish easily gave them the Lunker prize. Surprisingly the top water wasn’t as strong as expected. Most fish came off of soft plastics, some spinner-baits. The Lunker was fooled with a Senko.
  • 1st: Stan Stockton & Mike Peregrine                      5 Fish, 10.00 lbs, Lunker 3.04 lbs
  • 2nd: Jim North & Jerry Patterson                            4 Fish, 8.10 lbs, Lunker 6.10 lbs

  • The third annual Bass’n-9 Tourney was held 5 Aug 06 on Lake Cohoon & Meade. Between the two prominent Jon boat clubs in the area. We had 24 boats between both clubs, 14 from Bass-Jon’s and 10 from Rule-9. Based on the rules this would pit Bass-Jon’s ten best boats against Rule-9’s ten boats and deduct dead fish from each club’s weight to determine the winner. This year it was very close. Bass-Jon’s won for the third year in a roll with winning weight of 44.00 lbs which was a mere 3.13 lbs ahead of Rule-9. The fishing was tough, and the bite was off, but both clubs managed fish. Fish were caught on a variety of baits, but most reports had them coming on soft plastics. Immediately following the weigh in both clubs hosted a barbecue for club members and family. The event again this year was a hugh success with everyone having a great time with a affiliate clubs. I would like to thank our sponsors Alluring Baits, Dashiell's and Any Time Lock and Key. I would also thank all members from both clubs for the fellowship and fun we had this year and look forward to next years event.

Big sacks were the name of the game, Tom and Joe Lang broke the club record with a 5 fish limit for 21.10 lbs, plus taking home Lunker honors with a 6.08 lb Hawg. Tim Ackal and his partner Steel Byrum had 15.14 lbs to take second. Jim North and Scott Bailey rounded it out with a third place finish with 15.02 lbs. The scales were busy today. Most anglers reporting getting lots of fish and culling throughout the day. The morning bites produce fish on Buzz-baits and top water baits. Senko’s took lots of fish during the day as did any kind soft plastics, but fish were taking spinner baits as well as crank baits. It was a good day on Smith. Special thanks to Jane and Tom from Virginia Parks & Recreation who made sure the gate was open early for the event.

Well the cool weather came in along with the wind. The recent rains pushed the water level in Western Branch up a good two or three feet in just a few days. It muddy up the water a bit and beds were down deeper making sight fishing a chore. We had 16 boats, all but two caught some fish. But most fish still being reported being taken off beds. Fish are guarding fry and with a few fish being taken. The big news is Jim North’s win, fishing top water and wind exposed points.

Great day on the water, warm temperatures mild winds and fish on the beds. Due to the Easter weekend lots of anglers couldn’t make the tourney. But for those that did it turned out to be a good day. We had 12 boats, seven of which had limits. Most reports had fish being caught off of beds or near beds. Soft Plastics and Pig & Jig were the key.

  •   Well it started off with high winds, rain and cloud cover. But the wind blew the clouds out, and temp made it to 80 plus degrees. The wind was 20 - 30 mph, the water temp started at 55 degrees and in the coves it could be around 63 degrees. We had 14 boats and almost everyone caught some fish. But the ones with the sacks found bedding fish. Most fish taken with soft plastics, some spinner-bait and crank-baits. Walt DeGraaf score first thing in the morning with club's current Lunker of the Year with a nice 7 lb 6 oz Hawg taken with a Senko at the end of a lay-down.

  • Another cool day on the water, bitter cold in the morning, it warmed a up a little in the afternoon. The wind was out of the NE at 10 - 15 mph, water temp started at 52 degrees and by the end of the day in some coves it was up to 59 degrees. 1st and 2nd place took most of their fish on Senko's the rest of the field was a mixed bag of lures, crank-baits, pig & jigs and spinner-baits. But we can tell you that the Chain Pickerel were eating anything in the water.

The first tourney of the year started out a bit chilly, but it turned out to be a nice day on the water. Air temps in the low fifties, blue bird skies, and wind out of the North East, water temp started at 46 degrees and in certain locations it almost topped 50. Bass-Jon's fielded 19 boats, but only five found fish.  Tom Lang and partner Scott Bailey won the event with an impressive 5 fish, 20.00 lb bag. Seems spinnerbaits and crankbaits ruled the day for the fish that were taken.  Most fish taken anywhere from five to ten feet, and color of choice white. Patterns difficult to say, as everyone that caught fish seem to have a slightly different story. We would like to thank Tim Ackal and Gambler Baits for supplying free samples of their product line. For full line of pictures visit the Tourney Results page.
